Red Bull Appoints brandRapport Hong Kong for King of the Rock Basketball Campaign
Hong Kong, 10th July 2012
Red Bull has appointed brandRapport Hong Kong to oversee the media relations brief for its 2012 Red Bull King of the Rock campaign which launches this week in Hong Kong and Macau.
The appointment will see sponsorship and communications specialist brandRapport oversee all media requirements for the campaign in which basketball enthusiasts battle it out in a series of one-on-one tournaments, culminating in a Hong Kong & Macau Qualifier to determine who will represent the SAR in the world-wide finals on the infamous prison island of Alcatraz.
The announcement comes on the back of Red Bull’s recent BC One break-dance campaign which was also managed by brandRapport following a four-way agency pitch.
Commenting on the appointment, brandRapport’s Head of Asia, Ross Collett said, “Red Bull continues to set international standards in brand activation and King of the Rock is a great example of that. It’s a fantastic brand to work with and a great campaign. We’re delighted to continue the relationship.”
Red Bull King of the Rock went down in history as the first official sporting event ever to be held on Alcatraz and the first time basketball had been played on The Rock since the inmates left the island over 50 years ago. Now in its third year, the global one-on-one basketball tournament has expanded to qualifiers in 27 countries.
From the qualifiers, 64 finalists will head to the island to put it all on the line in The Yard in late September this year. The action in the SAR starts on 14 July with the first of seven pre-qualifier events, culminating in the Hong Kong & Macau Final on 1 September.
